What would you do in a pet emergency?
Perhaps a bee stings your dog or your cat is hurt in a fight.  Do you know what kinds of pet first aid you can administer vs. when you need to go to the veterinarian?  Do you have a pet-specific first aid kit?

When every minute counts in a life-threatening situation, do you have the skills to save your pet's life?  Do you know pet CPR?

Pet First Aid is the immediate care given to a pet that has been injured or is suddenly taken ill.  Knowing the skills and techniques of Pet First Aid can mean the difference between life and death for your pet, temporary vs. permanent disability, and rapid recovery vs. long recuperation periods.

Thousands of dogs and cats are injured and die every year from preventable accidents.  According to the American Animal Hospital Association, one out of four or more pets could be saved if just one Pet First Aid technique was applied prior to seeking veterinary treatment.  Preventable accidents are the leading cause of death and disability for non-senior dogs and cats.

Learn pet first aid and better pet care!
The Pet Tech program includes pet first aid and pet CPR training.
Pet Tech® was the first nationwide training center for dog and cat first aid and CPR.  Through a network of instructors, Pet Tech provides the most comprehensive Pet First Aid, pet health, and pet CPR training available.

Classes consist of lectures and demonstrations with plenty of time for hands-on skills exercises.  All PetSaver™ and Pet First Aid & CPR classes include a comprehensive workbook and completion certificate.
The PetSaver™ class is eight hours and can be scheduled all in one day or in several shorter sessions.  The Pet First Aid & CPR class, as well as the sessions covering general pet health including pet dental and senior pet-izen care, can also be taught as separate four-hour classes.

Snout-to-Tail Wellness Assessment
As a pet owner, you also need to observe and assess pets with a clinical eye.  Knowing how to check your dog or cat's vital signs and perform a regular Snout-to-Tail wellness assessment are the best ways to monitor a pet's ongoing health.  Through our PetSaver™ program you will learn to take better care of your pet and recognize early signs of potential medical problems.

In addition, more than 80% of dogs and 70% of cats develop periodontal disease by the time they reach the age of three years, according to the American Veterinary Dental Society.  The PetSaver™ program includes a session on pet dental care, and time is also spent on issues affecting the senior pet-izen.

Instructor Rosanne Berkenstock is a former Emergency Medical Technician at the cardiac care level and she is currently licensed as a Registered Nurse.  Prior to becoming a Pet Tech instructor, she attended several other pet first aid classes in an effort to find the best educational opportunity.

The Pet Tech program exceeded her expectations.  It is based on
Kirk and Bistner's Handbook of Veterinary Procedures and Emergency Treatment.  Each Pet Tech instructor goes through a comprehensive training program during which instructor candidates constantly review pet first aid procedures and practice the skills they will be teaching.  They have numerous opportunities to receive feedback from Pet Tech founder Thom Somes on their skills presentations and lecture techniques before earning their Pet Tech instructor certification.

Rosanne grew up on a farm in northern Virginia and she has been a lifelong pet owner.  A former National winner in the 4-H horse program, she currently owns two Jack Russell Terriers and they participate in Waggin' Hearts, a Virginia pet therapy program affiliated with
